About Voyis:

Voyis designs and manufactures high performance underwater optical sensors for subsea vehicles (laser scanners, cameras, and lighting systems) that expand capability and enhance human understanding in ocean exploration and survey. Our products have enabled our customers to survey thousands of kilometers of the ocean floor across all 7 continents, as well as producing 3D reconstructions of famous shipwrecks like the RMS Titanic and HMS Endurance.  Our mission is to push the limits of what’s possible subsea and enable every underwater vehicle to see the depths like we see the surface.

What you’ll do:

As the Production Manager at Voyis, you will oversee all aspects of manufacturing and manage the technologists who build, test and certify our products at the Waterloo facility. The role will have a wide scope of responsibilities, spanning personnel management, training, scheduling, and the development of Lean Manufacturing processes and culture. This role is ideal for an experienced production manager who is looking to bring their experience to a small but rapidly scaling company to shape the department into a world-class manufacturing organization.

The role will report to the Director of Operations and include collaboration with Quality and Engineering managers who support production operations. The role will focus on personnel management, the facilitation of a training program, and day-to-day scheduling and problem-solving for the team.  With the operations department rapidly growing, the ideal candidate will bring proven experience in lean manufacturing to support the development of new processes relating to new production introduction, continuous improvement, 5S, health & safety, and, more generally, building a culture rooted in teamwork and quality. We seek someone with a technical background in electronics/hardware assembly, a passion for management and manufacturing systems, and an interest in scaling a growing production organization. Specific responsibilities include:

·         Personnel management of the manufacturing technologists – Management, training, growth, hiring, and department organization.

·         Weekly scheduling, prioritization, and addressing blockers for the team in daily standups.

·         Development and facilitation of a training program for the production team.

·         Represent the manufacturing team during new product introductions, engineering change notices, and initiatives, helping ensure effective execution.

·         Development and implementation of new department processes relating to continuous improvement, 5S, and other industry best practices.

·         Reporting on production metrics and initiatives.

·         Foster a culture based on teamwork, quality, and the principles of lean manufacturing.

Note this is an in-person role at our headquarters in Waterloo. There may be some opportunities for limited periods of remote work, however the job requires you to be here with the team building our products.

Skills you will bring to the table:

·         3+ years' experience in Production Management at an electronics manufacturing facility.

·         Engineering or Technologist certification in electrical, mechanical/mechatronics, or quality

·         Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and their implementation

·         Experience with electrical assembly and testing, including soldering, connector assembly, wiring, etc.

·         Experience facilitating technical training and developing robust processes.

·         Exposure to Quality Management Systems and manufacturing quality activities.

·         A positive attitude where you continuously strive for improvement and have the ability to succeed without all the answers.

Bonus Points for:

  • Exposure to ERP systems, like NetSuite.
  • Experience with New Product Introductions, prototyping, and product development.
  • Knowledge of IPC-620/610, Experience with PCBA testing, handling ESD-sensitive materials
  • Familiarity with embedded computing technologies, cameras and lenses, CNC machining and metal fabrication.
  • Six Sigma belt designation.
